As well as being the heart of Scandinavia, denmark is the name adopted by duo Kristina Sondergaard and Morten Remmer (James Bong) for their first collaboration, ΓÇÿΓÇÿIn that toneΓÇÖΓÇÖ.
It may then come as no surprise that both artists are Danish, currently residing in Copenhagen.
'In that tone' is their debut release for Lidocaine (a division of Mainline Records). Both artists have very creative and contemporary characteristics in their respective styles, possibly an element which comes across as being uniquely Danish: a very warm, clear and optimistic outlook.
The four tracks which combine to create 'In that tone', vary between what could loosely be called vocal TripHop, vocal Drum'n'Bass and Dub.
Each track has a clever undercurrent of ‘Pop’ sensibility which gives the overall impression an edge some where between the underground and the more mainstream. Maybe not quite the ‘Pet Shop Boys’ but with an emotional air, mood and feeling not experienced since the early days of St.Etienne, Bjorks ‘Debut’ album or Ian Brodies early ‘Lightningpop’.
One should clarify this by adding that it is the essence of these references and not their sound which denmark display.
A very radio friendly sound with lyrics which linger, much to the listeners pleasure.......
A limited edition remix 10ΓÇ¥ will be released lateΓÇÖ97.
Morten is half of James Bong which has been released by premier UK label ΓÇÿ2 KoolΓÇÖ.
